How much does Gumroad take from a sale?
What Gumroad deducts from a sale of 100, 500, 1,000 and 5,000 US dollars, computed from the two fees Gumroad publishes on its own pricing page: one for a sale you bring yourself and one for a sale its Discover marketplace brings.
Gumroad (partial). Only the Gumroad fee could be read: 10% + 0.50 US dollars per sale through your profile or a direct link, and 30% per sale to a new customer through Discover. Whether a separate payment processing fee is added to the 10% + 0.50 could not be read on a Gumroad page on 2026-10-06, so no processing number is included and the real deduction may be higher than shown. Your Gumroad dashboard shows what was deducted from each sale.
The short answer
On a sale through your own profile or a direct link, the published Gumroad fee is 10.50 US dollars on a sale of 100, 50.50 on 500, 100.50 on 1,000 and 500.50 on 5,000. When the buyer is a new customer who found you through Gumroad's Discover marketplace, the published fee is 30% with no fixed fee.

Discover sale: worked examples
A Discover sale costs more because Gumroad's marketplace brought the customer; a direct sale is a customer you brought yourself.

One sale of 1,000 is not two hundred sales of 5
Each row above is a single sale. The fixed 0.50 is charged on every direct sale, so it matters most on small prices: on a 5 US dollar product the published fee is 1.00 US dollar, a fifth of the price. Two hundred direct sales of 5 add up to 1,000 US dollars of sales and 200 US dollars of published fees, not the 100.50 shown for a single sale of 1,000.

What to charge to keep a round amount
At the direct-sale rate, to keep 100 US dollars after the published Gumroad fee, price the product at 111.67; to keep 1,000, price it at 1,111.67. Each figure is the smallest price, to the cent, that leaves at least the target after the published fee. Because the Gumroad figure is partial, treat these as the least you would need to charge. The calculator does this for any amount.

What the fee pays for, and what could not be read
- Gumroad says it has been merchant of record since January 1, 2025 and handles sales tax collection and remittance, so part of its fee pays for that.
- Payment processing: no number is stated on Gumroad's pricing page, and Gumroad's help-centre fee article returned no readable text on 2026-10-06. It is unknown here, not zero.
- Payout fee: none is stated on the pricing page, so none is recorded. That is a gap in what was read, not a statement that payouts are free.

What these figures leave out
- Buyers outside the US and currency conversion: Gumroad publishes no figure for them on the pages read.
- Taxes, chargebacks and refunds.
- Rounding: fees are rounded to the nearest cent here. A provider may round one cent differently.
