Upwork vs Fiverr fees: use the rate on your own account
This page does not publish an Upwork or Fiverr fee. It explains why, gives you a calculator for the rate your own account shows, and works out what the same invoice costs when one of your own direct clients pays you through a payment provider.
No Upwork or Fiverr figure is published here. On 2026-10-06 the automated reader behind this site tried five official Upwork pages and five official Fiverr pages, including each marketplace's fee help article and legal terms. Every one of them refused automated reading (HTTP 403). This site only publishes a fee it could read on the provider's own page that day, so it publishes none for Upwork or Fiverr rather than repeat a number from memory or from another site. Both marketplaces publish their fees in their own help centres.

For comparison: what a payment from your own direct client costs
A marketplace is also where the client finds you; a payment provider only moves the money, so the two fees do not buy the same thing. The table shows what a US freelancer keeps when a direct client, one who came to you outside any marketplace, pays a domestic invoice of 100, 500 and 2,000 US dollars.
This table is for your own direct clients. Marketplaces generally forbid moving a client you met there to payment outside the marketplace; check the terms you agreed to before doing so.

Costs outside the per-payment fee
- Wise Business publishes a one-time 31 US dollar fee to get account details.
- Payoneer publishes a 1.50 US dollar fee to withdraw to a US bank account in US dollars, and a 29.95 US dollar annual account fee charged only when the account receives less than 6,000 US dollars in any 12 consecutive months.
- Wise and Payoneer rows are bank transfers. A client who insists on paying by card needs a card processor such as the PayPal or Stripe rows.
