How much does Wise Business take from a payment you receive?
What Wise deducts when a US freelancer or creator receives a domestic payment of 100, 500, 1,000 and 5,000 US dollars to Wise Business account details, computed from the fees Wise publishes on its own pricing page.
Wise is an account, not a card processor. Your client pays by bank transfer to your account details. Wise does not take a card payment for you, so these figures only help if your client is willing to pay by bank transfer.
The short answer
Receiving a domestic US dollar payment that is not a wire or a Swift payment, for example an ACH transfer, costs nothing: Wise publishes no fee for it. Receiving a US dollar wire or Swift payment costs a fixed 6.11 US dollars per payment, whatever the amount. Wise also publishes a one-time 31 US dollar set-up fee to get account details, which is paid once and is not in the tables below.

Wire or Swift payment in US dollars
The fee is a fixed amount, not a percentage, so it weighs heavily on a small payment and hardly at all on a large one. If you can choose, ask a domestic client for a transfer that is not a wire.
| Provider and rate | Client pays | Fee | Effective % | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wise Business, USD wire or Swift payment, $6.11 fixed | $100.00 | $6.11 | 6.11% | $93.89 |
| Wise Business, USD wire or Swift payment, $6.11 fixed | $500.00 | $6.11 | 1.22% | $493.89 |
| Wise Business, USD wire or Swift payment, $6.11 fixed | $1,000.00 | $6.11 | 0.61% | $993.89 |
| Wise Business, USD wire or Swift payment, $6.11 fixed | $5,000.00 | $6.11 | 0.12% | $4,993.89 |

Costs outside the per-payment fee
- Set-up fee. Wise Business publishes a one-time 31 US dollar fee to get account details. It is paid once, not per payment. On a single payment of 100 it is the largest cost on this page; spread over a year of invoices it is small.
- Moving the money out. No fixed figure was read for sending US dollars from Wise to a US bank account: Wise publishes it only as a starting percentage that varies by currency, so no payout fee is recorded here. That is a gap in what was read, not a statement that it is free.
- Your client's bank. A bank may charge its own customer to send a transfer or a wire. That fee is the client's, and it is not in these figures.
The figures above are for Wise Business. On the same day, Wise's pricing page for personal accounts showed the same free domestic receipt and the same 6.11 US dollar fee for a wire or Swift payment.

What these figures leave out
- Payers outside the US and currency conversion, which is where many freelancers meet Wise. The figures Wise publishes for them are part of the Pro page.
- Taxes and volume pricing.
- Card payments. A client who insists on paying by card needs a card processor.
Use the calculator to put Wise next to the other providers for any amount. Wise next to a card processor is on the Stripe vs Wise Business page and the PayPal vs Wise Business page, and the method is on the methodology page.
